What is the difference between sidereal and tropical astrology?

Vedic or sidereal astrology is based purely on the constellations. Sidereal means “star.” When astrology was originally understood over 3,000+ years ago, it was attached to constellations in the sky.

However, due to the precession of the equinoxes (the earth wobbles as it rotates), the constellations have moved in relation to the dates of the year they were originally attached to.

Tropical astrology is based on the earth and the seasons. Since the cycle of seasons has not changed, even though the constellations have moved from their original positions, Tropical Western astrologers still use the calendar dates.

Both systems seem to work. An additional difference: as far as I know, Vedic does not recognize any of the newly discovered planets like Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto.
